Jewelry Casting Mold Manufacturing Techniques

The lost-wax casting process is one of the oldest and most consistently reliable methods for producing repeatable, detailed jewelry shapes — and it all properly starts with a high-quality mold.

Wax Mold Making scaled

Wax Carving & Rubber Mold

Ours skilled workers, or a CNC machine, will carve out a master model in wax, which is then used to successfully create a rubber mold. A clean, properly made rubber mold effectively means every wax copy that comes out of it will hold exactly the same sharp detail, with no surface deformities or rough spots that need fixing up later on.

Moldig Tree scaled

Tree Wax Assembly

Multiple wax models are assembled onto a central wax rod — referred to as a tree — so that several pieces can effectively be cast in one single pour. This approach, of course, keeps batch consistency properly high while also reducing the per-unit production time.

Metal Casting

The wax tree is then placed inside a flask, and investment plaster is poured around it; after the wax has completely burned out, molten metal will be cast directly into the resulting cavity. At OOTB, experienced workers carefully monitor each and every stage so that the final metal pieces come out with surfaces that are smooth and edges that are clean.

Advanced Machinery for Jewelry Manufacturing

Laser Cut for Jewelry

Laser Cutting Machine For Jewelry

  • Micrometer-Level Cutting: The laser cutting machines at OOTB can cut jewelry outlines and internal patterns — including intricate openwork designs — at micrometer-level accuracy.
  • Multi-layer stacking: Flat metal layers are cut individually and stacked on top of each other, building up a three-dimensional effect without the cost or complexity of full-volume casting. This works well for geometric designs, layered pendants, and textured surfaces.
  • Flat cutout with bending and shaping: A flat piece is laser cut to the correct outline and then bent or shaped into a three-dimensional form. This method suits curved bangles, cuff shapes, and structural earrings where the form comes from controlled bending rather than stacking.

CNC Machinery For Jewelry

  • Gemstone Setting and Groove: CNC machining enables OOTB to produce stone seats and prong grooves with precision controlled to ±0.005mm and this allows stones to be flush, secure, and straight each and every time they’re set, which is just as important for the way the piece looks as it is for the security of the stone, whether setting cubic zirconia or natural gemstones.
  • High-precision wax models: A CNC machine can make precise, intricate wax prototypes quickly (only hours), rather than taking many days to build them with hand tools. It greatly reduces wait times from when you approve a design until you get your first production run sample. Therefore, it will reduce the overall lead times required for customization of a product.
  • Consistent output across large runs: CNC is computer-programmed, not manually controlled, so the pieces made in any batch will all match exactly to the same measurements. This eliminates a lot of opportunities for product inconsistency caused by being made to different specs when managing many different SKUs or repeat orders of the same item.

Precision Polishing Process for a Fawless Finish

The process of polishing does more than create an eye-pleasing surface; it is critical in achieving an even distribution of the coating on the metal substrate, which affects the durability of the coating and how much wear your finished product can withstand.

Tumbling Polishing

Tumbling Polishing

Tumbling is the first step for every piece; this machine will remove any burrs caused during the machining process, provide an even surface for polishing, and prepare the metal for fine finishing.

Polishing by Auto Machine

Automatic Polishing

Automated polishing machine brings the surface of the metal to a smoother, more refined finish. At this stage, the metal part can be hand finished, and any remaining surface irregularities will also be removed.

Polishing by Hand

Hand Polishing

Workers hand-polish the final part to achieve the high-polished mirror finish or matte finish required based on the design. This gives the worker much more control over specific areas than tumbling or an automated machine could do.

Our surface is uniformly polished, making it easier for PVD or electroplated coatings to be evenly distributed. Which makes the thickness of the coating the same, and there’re no different colour tones to appear at high contact points (i.e. band rings and bracelet links).

Jewelry Coating Option for Different Brands

The coating on your jewelry is the part of the product that customers interact with and see on a daily basis. Therefore, determining the correct thickness and type of coating for your target price/customer is one of the key factors to consider in the production process.

PVD Coating Thickness Option

  • 0.03µm for fashion jewelry: If you are creating trend-led, fashion jewelry lines, OOTB can offer 0.03µm PVD coating at a cost that works for high-volume production, it balances the cost and quality, last 1-2 years.
  • 0.05µm and 0.08µm for high-end brands: For a higher-priced brand, it may consider resisting scratching and hold their color under regular wear for over 3 years, which directly improves both scratch performance and color fastness. OOTB can offer 0.05um to 0.08um PVD coating to make your jewelry high-performance.

Coating Color Options

Our stainless-steel jewelry comes in many colors with PVD coatings, including black, gold, and rose gold. We are also able to provide standard electroplated finishes on brass and silver pieces as well — options include gold and rhodium plating.

Jewelry Stone Making and Setting

Stones add value, color, and detail to jewelry — and the quality of the setting work determines whether that value holds up over time.

Wide Ring of Stone Types & Shapes

Material variety lets you offer customers different price points and style preferences within your silver jewelry collection.

OTB works with genuine 925 sterling silver combined with quality gemstones and pearls for enhanced jewelry designs

Gemstone settings use secure mounting techniques that prevent stone loss during normal wear.

Pearl integration follows traditional jewelry making methods for lasting beauty.

Setting Stones

Hand Setting for Fine Jewelry Brands

Setting Stone By Hand

Skilled workers at OOTB will use their talents to hand-set each individual stone in designs. Our ability to place each stone accurately in prong settings, basket settings, or more complex bead or pavé style settings cannot be recreated by machines.

Automatic Setting for Cost-Efficient Production

Auto Setting Stone Machine

Automatic setting machines place stones uniformly and fast for large production runs of simple designs – especially channel- or pavé-set pieces having repeating patterns. Therefore, these machines reduce labor expense per unit whilst allowing the jeweller to maintain the quality of their work, which is essential to competitive pricing for their core product.

Quality Assurance

Ordering jewelry from a factory in China without a way to check quality before shipment is one of the biggest concerns small brands face. OOTB has built a specific inspection process to address this.

he AQL inspection standards used by OOTB are applied to sample and to check a statistically sufficient number of each order against clearly established criteria for passing the inspection (i.e., pass/fail) thereby establishing a reliable measure of the quality of that portion of the complete order.

AQL Inspection

he role of each inspector is limited to inspecting only specific products, such as rings or bracelets, allowing them to develop specific experience in their product category so they can find things that an inspector who performs all types of inspections might not be able to see.

Category-Assigned Inspectors

Five different criteria will be used to check the accuracy of every piece of merchandise; these criteria include: surface scratches; dimensional accuracy in accordance with specifications; functional parts (clasps, closures, loops); level of plating uniformity and coverage; and, lastly, the securely set stone in each piece of merchandise.

Structure Test

Our inspection team takes video of your finished pieces prior to any shipment. That video is sent to you before the order is shipped to give you a “go” to ship those items. This allows you to have visibility on all your product shipments, whether or not you are able to be able to visit the factory in person.
